Data Image Trail handles

Image Trail handles only data needed for user-requested extension features:

• Website content selected by the user, including image and page URLs, image bytes, and URL-derived metadata.
• The user's Image Trail records, including transient Recents, durable Pins, Bookmarks, albums, captured originals, and import or export files.
• Extension settings and security material used to protect local records.
• Authentication information issued by a storage provider when the user explicitly connects that provider.

Image Trail does not collect health, financial, payment, personal communication, precise location, or creditworthiness data. It does not use clicks, keystrokes, or browsing activity for analytics or advertising.

How data is used

Data is used only to provide Image Trail's user-visible functions: selecting and navigating images, downloading or capturing a selected original, maintaining the user's local queue and albums, importing or exporting records, and performing an optional user-initiated encrypted backup, Move, or Sync.

Image Trail does not sell user data. It does not use or transfer user data for advertising, credit decisions, or purposes unrelated to these functions.

Storage and retention

Image Trail stores settings and records in extension-owned browser storage. Recents are session-only and are discarded when the browser session ends. Pins, Bookmarks, albums, and captured originals remain until the user deletes them or removes the extension's stored data. Captured original bytes and protected record contents are encrypted at rest. Some URL-derived lookup metadata may remain in local extension storage according to the user's searchable-metadata setting.

Image Trail has no developer-operated collection or analytics server.

Optional storage providers and native companion

Image Trail contacts a storage provider only when the user chooses and authorizes that provider:

• Google Drive access uses Chrome Identity and the narrow drive.file scope, which limits access to files created or opened by Image Trail.
• pCloud access uses the provider's authorization flow and host access approved by the user. Image Trail backup files are encrypted before upload.
• Experimental iCloud Transfer & Sync uses the separately installed, signed Overlook native companion on macOS. Native messages are limited to bounded control requests and references to encrypted files.

Provider-hosted encrypted data remains until the user removes it using Image Trail or the provider. Provider terms and privacy policies also apply to data the user chooses to place with that provider. The user can disconnect a provider or revoke its authorization at any time.

Permissions

• activeTab and scripting operate the packaged Image Trail panel on the user-invoked active page.
• downloads creates files only after a user-requested download or export.
• identity supports optional, user-initiated provider authorization.
• storage holds extension settings, records, and protected local material.
• declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess supplies required headers through a temporary rule scoped to an exact user-requested pCloud download.
• nativeMessaging is present only in the private Beta for experimental communication with the Overlook companion.
• Optional host access is requested for a specific origin when a user asks Image Trail to retrieve content from that origin.

Security and user control

Image Trail minimizes provider scopes, keeps extension-owned state out of host-page storage, encrypts captured originals and protected records, and removes temporary network rules after use. No security measure is perfect, and this Beta is pre-release software. Users should keep independent backups of important data.

Users can remove individual records and originals in Image Trail, clear the extension's browser data, disconnect providers, revoke provider access, or uninstall the extension.
